Italian at Swansea offers a balanced and attractive choice of undergraduate courses and activities to students from a variety of academic backgrounds. Most of you will have studied modern languages (and some of you Italian) before coming to Swansea. This will give you a good background for your university study of Italian. But those of you who have little or no background in languages should also be able to follow the course successfully. The important thing is that you have the motivation to begin the study of a language and culture which have been important in the past and are becoming ever more important today in the context of the European Union. For details of undergraduate degree schemes in Italian, please refer to Undergraduate Studies.

We also offer wide-ranging opportunities for postgraduate study, with Italian modules offered as part of the MA in European Literary and Cultural Studies and the MA in Translation with Language Technology, both run by the Department of Modern Languages. Research degrees in a wide range of areas covering 19th and 20th-century Italy are also available. For details of postgraduate degree schemes, please refer to Postgraduate Studies.
We have an excellent stock of books and periodicals, as well as access to dvds, videos, and electronic resources, in the campus library. There are works on a wide range of aspects of Italian life and culture (art, history, language, literature, music, philosophy, politics) and we are particularly well equipped with Italian reference works of all kinds (encyclopedias, dictionaries, grammars).
