The Institute was established in 2000 and exists as a specialist research and professional training centre within the School of Law at Swansea University. The Institute has been established to promote research and teaching of the highest standard in the fields of international shipping and trade law; and also to foster co-operation with other academic institutions and professional, commercial, shipping, insurance and business organisations.
