Introduction

There is now a new Athens system at Swansea University for accessing Athens protected resources. Students can now use their Library and Information Services open access computer account to access Athens protected resources.

Staff will continue to use Athens accounts that begin "swa9..." for now though these accounts will eventually be phased out.

Athens users must: keep the Athens account confidential and not permit any third party to use it;
use the Athens account for the purpose for which it was issued by Swansea University; and accept the terms of the Eduserv Athens Privacy Policy.

 

Students

The username and password for students is the same as the one you use to log on to a Library and Information Services computer or e-mail via the Internet or Blackboard. You will need to have the cookie activated on your computer.

If you are a student who is off-campus, using a computer at home, you will need to set a cookie on your computer by clicking here. You will be on a new page. Click "Go" and then log in. You should only need to set the cookie once on each computer that you use.

The cookie can be removed from your computer by clicking here.

 

Staff

If you are a member of staff Athens accounts that begin with "swa..." can still be used.

New staff should contact their branch library, including the Information Desk (tel: 01792 295697) at the Library and Information Centre or their Library and Information Services Subject Team.

If you are a member of staff and you do not know your Athens password, please contact your branch library or the Library and Information Centre Information Desk (tel: 01792 295697) or your Library and Information Services Subject Team.

 

Off-campus

If you are off campus there are several options:

1. If you are a student, you can set the cookie on your computer by clicking here. You will be on a new page. Click "Go" and then log in.

2. If you are a member of staff, you can use a 'classic' Athens account. That is, an account that begins "swa9..." t

3. If you are not from Swansea University, you can use an Athens account from another institution. Below the two log in boxes you will see a smaller box which you will need to tick so that your non-Swansea University Athens account is activated.
