The results of the Research Assessment Exercise 2008 will be publically announced at 00:01on 18 December 2008.
The RAE is an evaluation of the quality of research underway across the UK higher education sector. The results are published in the form of quality profiles produced for each area of research activity submitted to the RAE for evaluation. In total, 612 of the University's research related staff were submitted to the RAE, covering 31 Units of Assessment.
From the 2009/10 academic year, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW), in common with the other UK higher education funding bodies, will take these quality profiles into account when deciding the value of research grants to be allocated to each institution.
The outcome of the RAE 2008 will therefore be an important factor in the development of the University's future research activity.
