As a future graduate there are more opportunities open to you than ever before – so the earlier you start thinking about what you want to do and how to get there – the better!
Careers at Swansea University provides you with all the resources you need to do this. We can assist you in exploring the choices available and planning how to spend your vacations. We can also support you in getting a term-time job, gaining relevant experience, and searching for suitable employment or further study opportunities after graduation.
If you haven’t a clue about what you want to do, don’t worry. We can help. Whether you are interested in jobs, postgraduate study, voluntary work or taking a year out, advice and help is available.
Your first encounter with Careers is likely to be our base in the Library or the website, both of which are designed to be used on a self-help basis. The website is updated daily and contains lots of useful information and links. You can of course get help from the information team in Careers.
One of our strengths is helping with applications and interviews. If you are applying for any job, or further study opportunity, one-to-one help is available on completing forms, putting together a CV or writing letters of application.
The employment market for graduates continually changes. Staff at Careers monitor developments, providing feedback to Schools and individual students.
Careers Advisers are available every day and you can arrange to chat with them on any careers-related issue.
There are plenty of part-time jobs to be found in and around Swansea for those of you wishing to work a few hours a week to help fund your study. Our Jobshop Advisers can help you find paid and voluntary part-time and vacation work as well as summer placements/ internships.
From work and leisure activities, you acquire and develop skills and personal qualities that are highly relevant to graduate careers. These are often complementary to your learning from academic study, for example in the areas of teamwork, administration, organisation, effective time management and dealing with a wide range of people.
It is easy to see these activities as simply a break from academic study, but they do contribute significantly to employability. At Careers we have produced a range of materials to help you identify and improve these skills and personal qualities.
